The Segment-Gamma System: A new approach to ensuring chemical and biological safety in places of mass presence of people
The COVID-19 pandemic has become an incentive to strengthen anti-epidemic measures to protect the population and create new technical means.
In recent years, long before the COVID-19 pandemic, Russia has adopted a number of regulatory documents governing chemical and biological safety issues - from the Presidential Decree "On the Fundamentals of the State Policy of the Russian Federation in the Field of Ensuring Chemical and Biological Safety" to dozens of Government decrees establishing safety requirements for any facilities and territories, including transport infrastructure.
If the measures prescribed by these requirements had been observed at least partially by the beginning of 2020, Russia would probably not have had an outbreak of COVID-19, nor would there have been a more than two-month economic shutdown, the consequences of which we have yet to feel.
One thing is clear: an important aspect of the "new reality" will be much closer attention to issues of ensuring biological protection. At the same time, the request for increased security measures will now come not only from the state, as in the case of anti-terrorist protection, but also from ordinary people themselves - transport passengers, business center employees, retail employees and clients, spectators and participants in sports competitions.
